Read this last night and was frankly appalled...http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/06/05/kelly-mcparland-cancel-the-election-results-brigette-depape-is-not-happy/
Not that I have any problem with someone voicing their opinions about the government, but this was a stunt, plain and simple. When you work as a Senate page, behavior like this is NOT appropriate. It is not a stage to voice your own personal political beliefs or statements. If she has a problem with the election, then she should work in a campaign next time. Around 15 million people voted in the last election and picked Stephen Harper and his Conservatives to be our majority government, not to mention a major shift in Canadian politics, selecting Jack Layton and the NDP as the opposition. I know many people like DePape who are still grumbling about the election results. Tough luck, sweets.
I was also disturbed by the fact she had a press release ready and someone there to schedule interviews. Clearly an attention getting stunt. And now she apparently even has Michael Moore on her side... *ROLLS EYES* Like Michael Moore gives a shit about Canadian politics. He likes to claim he's in it for the little guy, but really, other than make a tremendous amount of money from his so-called "documentaries" (in reality, thinly veiled editorials) and being a shit-disturber, what has he ever really done for the little guy? He likes to get his own picture and name in the papers and that is about it. I've never heard of him really giving back to the little guy. Much like DePape, Moore is an opportunist of the first order.
Ms. DePape should be ashamed of herself for using her position as a page for something like this. She deserved to be fired. The unfortunate outcome of this is that it will likely become harder for young people to be involved in programs like this. I hope she thinks long and hard about what the ramifications of her actions will be on fellow students.
