What a crazy world we live in...

We certainly live in a crazy world, don't we?  As Shakespeare might have said "enterprises of great pitch and moment" are afoot.  You only need to look as far as the Middle East and the upheaval in places like Libya, Egypt, Bahrain, etc.

Bu then we get stories like this: http://www.680news.com/entertainment/article/187265--bieber-donates-his-hair-to-charity

I commented on this story thusly: What is the next "headline" going be? "Bieber passes gas, sells it on eBay"? I love how stories like this seem to wind up on either "most popular" or "must read"... What a joke. People grow out their hair for charity to have wigs made for cancer patients, but its no big deal. Justin Bieber does it and he makes headlines. What passes for so-called "news" these days is truly sad and pathetic.

I was equally frustrated when the "news" of Tiger Woods crash outside his home hit the news, and we found out about his philandering.  What is the difference between a golf ball and a Cadillac? Tiger Woods can't drive a Cadillac 300 yards. LOL  As the news filtered out, I was finding Tiger at the top of the news casts I watched for what seemed like a month at least.  Meanwhile, other more newsworthy stories were pushed aside.  Explain it to me, because I don't get it!  I can't understand why all this celebrity drivel winds up in the news?  It is not news... its gossip at best.

Another commenter on the above Bieber article said he was going to clip his toe nails... sounds like a plan... any charities interested in the toenail clippings of a relatively obscure blogger? I'll take a shiny nickel for them! As MAD magazine says, CHEAP!

In other news...

We are about 6 hours away from the final launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery, currently the oldest operationational shuttle in NASA's fleet.

Two more missions will follow, with the last, STS-135 slated for the end of June.  An era will soon end.  My childhood dream was the fly on the shuttle.  Unfortunately, due to changes in the world and a lack of achievement in high school, those dreams were dashed, but I still follow news of the launches closely and have fond memories of attending Space Camp back in 1990.  We were the Teledyne Brown team... "Teledyne Brown... just sittin' around."

Today's launch is slated for 16:50, EST.  I hope to be watching it!  Boldy go, Discovery!
